Terrain
TERRAIN READ THE GROUND
Terrain changes how units move and fight. The same formation can perform very differently depending on whether it is crossing open ground, fighting inside a city, moving through mountains or operating along the coast.
The Ground Beneath The Army
Open Ground
Light vegetation favoring mobile warfare. Most units reach their highest movement speed here.
Mobility FriendlyMountains
Extremely rugged ground that heavily affects movement, particularly for armored forces.
Severe Movement ImpactForest
Medium vegetation that slows movement while providing additional defensive cover.
Cover & DefenseUrban
Dense city terrain favoring defense and generally working against heavy armored units.
Defensive EnvironmentSuburban
Dense built-up terrain with similar defensive characteristics and restricted vehicle movement.
Restricted MovementJungle
Dense vegetation that reduces movement, especially for armored units, while favoring infantry.
Infantry FriendlyTundra
Arctic terrain with conditions that are unfavorable to infantry formations.
Harsh EnvironmentDesert
Arid open terrain that favors mobile warfare and fast maneuver.

Coastal Waters
Waters close to shore form a separate naval terrain state from the open ocean. Some naval units have different characteristics in coastal water than they do at sea.
High Seas
Open-ocean terrain represents deep-water naval operations and can produce different unit statistics from coastal waters.
In Flight
Air units use an In Flight state while airborne. Their combat statistics differ from their grounded state.
On The Ground
Aircraft on the ground operate with reduced HP, attack and defense compared with their airborne state.
Terrain Is Part Of The Unit
Terrain modifiers are unit-specific. The correct question is therefore not simply “which terrain is best?” but “which terrain is best for the formation currently fighting there?”
Read Terrain
Use the terrain overlay or province information before committing a force.
Check Unit Stats
Unit information shows terrain-specific changes to battlefield performance.
Choose The Ground
Defending or attacking from favorable terrain can change the engagement.
Plan Movement
Movement speed through terrain can matter as much as direct combat statistics.
