Research
RESEARCH BUILD THE NEXT GENERATION
Research determines which military units and upgrades are available to your nation. Technology develops progressively through the campaign and is shaped by prerequisites, resources, doctrine and time.
From Research To Battlefield
Wait For The Day
Technologies become available progressively as the campaign advances.
Unlock Earlier Tiers
Higher-level technology depends on earlier research in the same progression path.
Commit Resources
Spend the required Supplies, Rare Materials and Money and occupy a research slot.
Deploy The Technology
Unit upgrades apply to both newly produced and already existing units of that type.
How The Research Tree Works
New Units
Research can unlock military units that were previously unavailable for mobilization.
Existing Units
Researching an improvement automatically upgrades both current and future units belonging to the researched unit type.
Two Projects
Up to two research improvements can be active at the same time, making slot allocation part of technological planning.
Change Course
Ongoing research can be cancelled. The official wiki states that the refund is proportional to how much research had already been completed.
Technology Competes With The War Economy
Research draws from the same national economy used to build infrastructure and mobilize forces.
Spending aggressively on technology can delay construction or mobilization, while underinvesting in research can leave the military technologically behind. Research planning therefore has to remain connected to the national economy.
Doctrine Changes The Research Path
Conflict of Nations uses three military doctrines. Doctrine influences unit availability and the timing of research advantages and disadvantages.
Western
One of the three doctrine trees, with its own unit models, research timing and military characteristics.
Eastern
Uses a different technological progression profile and can receive earlier or later access to selected unit features.
European
Provides its own research advantages, disadvantages and unit progression across the campaign.
